Sleight of Mouth Patterns – Difficult by Design

Hey there! Kenrick Cleveland here. Let’s talk about these slight of mouth patterns and why they’ve got a reputation for being so difficult to use.

There are around 24 main patterns, and each one needs at least three parts to work right – like an “if” statement, a “then” statement, and a concluding “so” statement. So in your head, you’ve got to quickly figure out how to combine those three parts in different ways, choose the right pattern, and smoothly say it out loud. It’s like speed-solving a complex math problem on the fly!

I had one client who spent years studying slight of mouth and wrote the equivalent of three books trying to get good at it. Even really smart people have a hell of a time mastering the intricacies.

But the biggest issue is that most people use the patterns incorrectly anyway. They wait until someone has a concrete objection or belief already cemented, and then try to overcome it with a pattern. That’s way too late! I always stress redirecting the thinking earlier, before people latch on to a belief – but most folks are too hesitant to do this in case it derails the conversation.

After working with slight of mouth patterns for decades, I’ve made it much simpler. I’ve come up with 13 core patterns that work smoothly without needing to elicit the different “if, then, so” parts first. I can just naturally respond to something in a way that redirects the thinking early on.

You probably won’t even recognize I’m using a pattern! The key is I don’t have to plug statements into a formula first. I just reply in a conversational way that guides the thinking where I want it to go.

This makes slight of mouth way more usable for everyday situations. I’ve cut out the need to memorize every intricate pattern and variation. With just these 13 core patterns, anyone can apply them without advanced study.

My simplified system may even replace old-school slight of mouth altogether. By combining the streamlined patterns with AI, responses can be generated to shift perspective in any communication scenario. It’s a huge leap forward for this field!

The bottom line – traditional slight of mouth requires memorizing complex patterns and using them smoothly. After years of work, I’ve simplified it so anyone can learn 13 core patterns that subtly redirect thinking during regular conversation. This finally makes the influential power of slight of mouth accessible, without needing to be an expert.
